WHITEWATER VALLEY RAILROAD MERIT BADGE CAMPOREE

Ever wondered how a railroad REALLY operates? This is your chance to take a hands-on class leading to actual excursion passenger train operation on a short line heritage railway. Training includes classroom instruction, hands-on practice in train operations, signaling and switching, and an introduction to diesel and steam locomotive operation.
Adult trainees will have direct practice in coupling cars, and the opportunity to operate a full size historic diesel locomotive .
All scouts can earn the Railroading Merit Badge.  Camporee is limited to Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts and Scout leaders only. We will be going to the
Whitewater Valley Railroad, for a full weekend of activities.

Friday all units will check into their campsites and enjoy a good nights sleep because starting on Saturday you will become a railroader.

Saturday morning after breakfast the train arrives  near the campsite to take you on a full day of history and hands on training.  All items for the merit badge will be done on Saturday.

Sunday morning the train arrives after breakfast to take you on a train ride. First the train stops at the station where each person will be required to purchase his own ticket (Required by Merit Badge)  On the way out of the station you will go over the Railroading Merit badge information followed by a written test on the train it will be finished before we reach the end of the outbound ride. Once we reach our destination we will return and along the way we will see the old white water canal which was a vital part of the history of this area. Sit back and enjoy the county side as you imagine what it was like to go everywhere by this mean of transportation. When we arrive at Metamora we will have a layover. We suggest each unit provide their lunches, there will be limited places to purchase their lunches I am sure it will be costly, There will be cooler space on the on train.
Arriving back to the campground we will depart for home and carry with us memories of a weekend of Scouting and railroad history and a special patch for the camporee.

No walk-in on Sunday's train ride. .
